Airport Scanning Devices and radiation
Asked by fleecepenguin (Female; 28; extensive family history of breast and ovarian cancer ) on Thu 18, Nov 2010 08:04pm
As someone who is already at risk for both breast cancer and ovarian cancer,
should I simply avoid the new backscatter imaging devices at the airport, or am
I being paranoid?
Answer by bobby s, md on Sat 25, Dec 2010 04:46pm:
Hello, The data available so far indicates that airport scanning devices do not increase the risk of radiation-induced cancer. You must also remember that flying itself increases radiation exposure of a person. All the best and God Bless!
