Answer by Dr Dennis S, MD  on Wed 13, Feb 2008 10:11am:

Hi. Did you mean complimentary/alternative medicine? Treatment of breast cancer involves surgery, systemic therapy (chemotherapy and hormonal therapy), and radiotherapy. Newer techniques involve the use of targeted therapy. The treatment strategy will depend on the stage of the disease, as well as the presence or absence of prognostic factors in a patient. Unfortunately, there are no existing complimentary/alternative treatment for breast cancer backed-up by randomized clinical trials.

Comment by Me on Thu 09, Dec 2010 09:30am: Try "Vitamin B17" aka Laetrile, along with Pancreatic Enzymes, Zinc and Vitamin C. Cut out (or reduce) the 3 S's - Smoking, Sugar, Stress Look up Alternative Therapies for Cancer - also Nutritional/Vitamin Therapy Chemo is well documented to work only on very few cancers - Breast Cancer isn't one of those. Don't go down the cut/burn/poison route just because you will be strong armed into it. BUILD UP YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM - don't kill it with Chemo.
Comment by H on Wed 06, Apr 2011 02:37pm: To the commenter recommending 'build up your immune system' Shame on you! Why even try to condemn this women to an awful, preventable death with such lies? Breast cancer is very treatable, and in most cases, very curable. We don't strong arm patients. They come to us looking for help, and we offer what we have, and what we have is a lot (and getting better every year). It's up to the patient to agree, or not. If they choose to not pursure therapy I might suggest a second opinion, or point them in the direction of educational resources, and offer to see them back again to discuss things further. If they still choose alternative or no therapy, I respect that. It's difficult to watch them die though. Women diagnosed with cancer are often very scared, and dont know where to turn. Both breast cancer and its treatment are scary. But the facts are clear, a team of oncologists and surgeons working together are the best option, supported by mountains of proof. Where is your proof? However, if, by an unfortunate turn, you develop breast cancer, feel free to 'boost your immune system', and document the results for all of us to see. Until then, leave the discussion to rational adults.
