Hi,
Fatigue, anorexia, weight loss (despite adequate nutrition), and hypermetabolism in cancer patients is common. This has been described as the cancer cachexia syndrome, and the exact underlying patho-biology has not yet been unraveled. However, cytokines like Tumor Necrosis Factor Alfa (TNF-a), Interlukin (IL)-1, IL-6, Interferon gamma, proteolysis inducing factor, and lipid mobilizing factor are important mediators of cancer the cancer cachexia syndrome.
Nausea in cancer patients is very common, and may follow treatment. It may be of three general types, that doctors have labelled acute, (within 24 hours of chemotherapy), delayed (after 24 hrs), and anticipatory (as a conditioned response to previous vomiting following chemotherapy).
Several effective drugs are now available for chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting.
All the best and God Bless!
