Could it be cancer (breast, bone, lymph nodes)??? Swollen right breast/arm pit area with pain!

Asked by kimmih (Female; 48; Endometriosis, Chronic Pain, Chronic Depression, PTSD, Lumbar Spondylosentisis, Spondylosis, Radiculitis, Thyroid (under active), Back surgery (rebuilt lumbar), Degenerative Disc Disease, Hysterectomy, Mother had Radical Mastectomy due to pre-malignant cancer cells & have history of arthritis (Father & myself), Mammograms show nothing out of the ordinary; though dr said possible Mastitis/cystitis. Tonsilectomy at 27 with removal of lymph node in left side of neck; was infection, not cancer as suspected. Most current, Shingles (that won't heal or go away - fighting since January) that don't respond to normal medication at all. NOTE: This all began WAY before the Shingles break out (the breast/arm pit problems). History of not healing well, always takes twice as long for me to recover from anything than others.; Relevant drugs:OxyContin, OxyIR, Imitrex, Synthroid, Motrin, Premarin, Klonopin ) on Tue 17, Jun 2008 12:03pm

Wondering if I possibly have some form of cancer (lymphoma, breast, even bone type)? Way up in right arm pit VERY sore & feels like I am carrying a sock there at all times. Right breast & arm pit are twice the size of left. Very painful, sore, now nipple is sore suddenly. Have gone 2 weeks with ice packs on area pain is so bad. Can't lift right arm at times either. Arm & hand will often be swollen twice the size of left in morning. In certain positions it feels like I have a sore area way up (on bone maybe) in arm pit. Also lymph nodes in right side of neck often swollen, numbness in right arm/hand & tingling & now very sore throat most days,

Answer by Dr Paul S, MD  on Mon 14, Jul 2008 10:27pm:

Hi. From the way you described your symptoms, it is indeed important to consider and eventually rule out the possibility of breast cancer. You can start by palpating your breast for any suspicious lumps or nodules, and have that evaluated or biopsied by your doctor. The neck nodes that usually appears may also have to be sampled through a biopsy procedure. Other causes may be related to your multiple bone and rheumatologic problem. This could be a manifestation of some form of arthritis, as well as soft tissue rheumatism. Since there are a lot of possibilities, it is better that your doctor be informed about this, and be worked up for the conditions I mentioned. Regards and God bless.
