Eleven years ago, at the age of 45, uterine cells were found on a routine pap smear. I had a D&C and the pathology indicated
serious hyperplasia and I was advised to get a hysterectomy. Because it was a small rural hospital, I had the sample sent to
a leading women's hospital for a 2nd opinion. This opinion differed and called it prolonged estrogen effect. It was then
advised I had it treated with high doses of Prometrium which I did and the uterine tissue reverted back to normal. To be on
the safe side, I have had an in office endometrial biopsy every year since then and all have been normal. My doctor said now
that I am 56, it is time to stop doing this routinely. My question is: should I stop testing and if I do, if I would
develop abnormal uterine cells or cancer, would there be symptoms to alert me since I would not be tested yearly?
