Haven't had a menstrual cycle in the past 8 months...what could that mean?

When I did have my cycles, they were irregular, painful, and very heavy with clots.I haven't had a cycle in the past 8 months.
I'm always tired, ankles swell, weight gain.A doctor told me that it was due to my age.Is there any other reason why this is
happening to me?my mother had 3 fibroid tumors removed at the age of 50, is it hereditary?
Hi,
The causes of heavy and irregular bleeding are- Hormonal imbalance , Uterine fibroid tumours , Cervical polyps , Endometrial polyps , Lupus , Pelvic inflammatory disease , Cervical cancer , Endometrial cancer ,IUD or bleeding disorders . Fibroid tumours have a relation to estrogen production by the body but may occur due to hereditary factors . Please consult a gynaecologist and endocrinologist for complete evaluation and investigations . A hormonal problem may also be the cause of weight gain and ankle swelling . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
