Asked by Unregistered on Mon 31, Mar 2008 02:52pm

I was dx with Multiple sclerosis in 2002. Since them my weigt has fluctuated after taking steroids. This year my weight has dropped or no given reason. I have chest probelems (pluericy) and a UTI infection. I am consirned there is something sinister going on with me as I hav never been this this in my life. Since January I Have losy 2 and 1/2 stone. I do take meds for my MS and one being Morphine Sulphate 90-mg a day... I wasnt sure if that caused weight loss. I am very scared as I lost my dad to cancer 12 months ago, and it was destroying to watch.

Hi. Losing two and a half stone in a matter of 3-4 months is really cause for concern, although it is still possible that the weight loss is due to your chronic debilitating medical condition (the multiple sclerosis, as well as the urinary tract infection and pleurisy). It is also possible for the Morphine to contribute to the weight loss by dulling appetite and causing abdominal fullness. It might be best to talk with your doctor about this, so you can be tested for any other conditions. Cancer is always one of the possibilities which need to be checked when there is unexplained weight loss.
