I has a colonoscopy 4 years ago with good results. My grandmother die of colon cancer. I am 58 years old. For the last month I have been finding blood in my stool. I have internal and external hemorroids and once in a while one will burst, but it bleed once and then it stops. However, this time I have found blood several times and I have lower intestinal pain. Is this something to be concerned about?

Hi, cancer of the colon can be hereditary and whether or not you require one more screening for the condition by colonoscopy and also can be determined to a large extent from your family history. However, this large bleeding may be due to the ruptured hemorrhoids as well. It is recommended that family history of colon cancer individuals should be referred to a consultant clinical geneticist for assessment just like in your case. Hope this helps.
