Itching for two years without manifestation of symptoms

Hello Doctor. I am trying to stay positive about the itching but it has been going on so long and no one has been able to figure it out. So then I think about terrible things such as lymphoma, etc. So basically, you are telling me in the last question that itching as a result of lymphoma should be accompanied by other systemic symptoms? In other words, itching for almost two years without the manifistation of other symptoms goes against the presence of lymphoma? Thanks

Hi there. I have read your previous question and the previous response. Cutaneous lymphoma can manifest with itching, however, itching does not necessarily mean that you have lymphoma. The absence of other symptoms of lymphoma makes the diagnosis less probable, let alone the rarity of the condition, and the existence of other more common possibilities (fungal infection, psoriasis, serborrheic dermatitis, drug reactions, allergic dermatitis, etc). It is still recommended that you have this evaluated by a dermatologist. If there is a definite lesion such as a rash or a plaque, then the dermatologist may need to a biopsy. Regards.

Comment by as51 on Sun 22, Jun 2008 08:55pm: check your liver enzymes, I have hepatitis and didnt find out for over 20 yrs. One of the signs of my late stage disease was itching due to elevated bilirubin. NOT that you have hepatitis, but any liver condition may cause itching on the skin. Best of luck
