Should I move up my Surgery dates with these symptoms of ovarian cancer


    
Asked by wlsandmann (Female; 37; No problems until 1 1/2 years ago. I began with low tolence to excise and had a very high AST level. I have had fibroid in my uterus for years. I have a small cyst on my ovary and one on my liver. I have bloating, weight gain, pelvic presure and pain, cramps, shortness of breath, high CA125 and D-Dimer; Relevant drugs:None ) on Fri 30, May 2008 11:10pm

I have a fibroid uterus, small cyst on my ovary, CA-125 level is 102. and my D-Dimer is elavated to 2.3. My doctor is not concerned because I am 37 with no history. I am scheduled for a historectomy of my uterus in 5 weeks. Should I be concerned,should this date be moved up, also does D-Dimer effect surgery? Thank you

Hi there. CA-125 levels are not specific for malignancy and may be elevated in benign conditions. Fibroid uterus may also cause some elevation in CA-125 levels. I'm not sure why D-Dimer was tested, but an elevated level means that you may have increased turn over of clotting factors which may result from some form of spontaneous thrombosis (blood clotting), which in turn may be related to your uterine condition. This should not be much of a problem during surgery but you may want to discuss with your doctor regarding need for drugs like heparin or enoxaparine to decrease the risk of thrombosis. If the condition is causing you significant pain ad discomfort, then the surgery may be done as soon as everyone is able.
