Swollen, sensitive lump on inner thigh.

Asked by Unregistered (Male; 19; n/a; Relevant drugs:n/a ) on Wed 11, Nov 2009 02:20am

Hi, Recently (1 week ago) I found a dime-sized lump under the skin on my upper right thigh. I thought it was a pimple and tried squeezing it, I can't recall for sure if any pus came out, but some blood did. Now, a few days ago I noticed a similar secondary lump lower on the same thigh. I did not squeeze it and left it alone. While the first lump hasn't changed it size, but has fluctuated in sensitivity to touch. The newest lump has more than tripped in its original nickle size and is very sensitive; even while moving around or sitting and standing It is vocal. I have no other real symptoms, but I do feel a little under the weather currently. I have previously (throughout my life) had small lumps around that area that I believed to be pimples, and squeezing them seemed to help, soon after they would disappear. I don't think the most recent lump is a pimple, and I couldn't squeeze it if i wanted to, because it isn't directly close (touching or just under) the skin. Also, when I was younger I used to have similar lump(s) (smaller) around my armpit(s), I believed those to be swollen lymph nodes but I never sought medical attention for them. I don't know if this lump could be lymph node related or not. I am posting this because I am concerned about the alarming rate this new lump is growing. What do you think it could be? I have social anxiety disorder, and I would prefer not to see a doctor (especially about such a private area, I would have to be naked for them to examine it) unless it is absolutely necessary. Thanks, Jessie.

Answer by Dr. Rajgopal, MBBS  on Sat 14, Nov 2009 07:20pm:

Hi, The lump mat be caused by many conditions and may be a lipoma, abscess, fibroma, osteosarcoma, or may be due to cellulitis, bursitis, vasculitis, sarcoidosis, amyloidosis and many other causes. An examination and investigations are absolutely necessary to determine the cause and treatment. Please consult a surgeon for proper diagnosis and treatment. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
