T3-N1 Colorectal Cancer in 40 YO femail, excellent health. No polyps during colonoscopy.
Asked by smlanphier (Female; 40; Excellent medical history, near optimal BMI, had kidney stones removed about 8 years ago, no other significant medical issues. ; Relevant drugs:None ) on Tue 01, Sep 2009 01:04pm
My wife was diagnosed with T3-N1 colorectal cancer. During the initial colonoscopy, no polyps were identified. Does this
mean that the one polyp that did develop turned cancerous? Can one get Colon cancer without developing polyps? If so,
what's the frequency?
Hi,
Most colon cancers start as polyps, however once they increase in size, their appearance is more like ulcerated growths and it is difficult to know whether there was a polyp previously if a colonoscopy was not done. Not all polyps become cancerous. Many patients of colon cancer do not have multiple polyps. A colonoscopy every ten years or a sigmoidoscopy every five years is recommended for screening and early detection of colorectal cancers.
All the best

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. My wife is on a 5-FLu, Leouv, Oxi x 12 over 6 months. She is
struggling a bit with the chemo, but her prognosis, becasue of her age and excellent health, is very good.
Thanks for your time.

Will there ever be a successful transplant for the rectum or something better than the antique sac system
which is very diagusting to perform?
