Hi,
Before agreeing to have the hysterectomy done, it would probably be prudent to ask for the opinion of the oncologist regarding your case. The choice is yours whether to wait for the oncologist you were referred to, or seek consult with a different oncologist. It might be useful to know what the biopsy results are, since the histology (or tissue type) of the cancer might have some bearing on the prognosis of your disease.
When you consult with the oncologist, you can ask her what stage your cancer is in, and what that stage means in terms of treatment options, survival rates and chances for a cure. If the stage has not yet been determined (sometimes the stage is only determined after surgery), you can ask what other diagnostic procedures need to be done to arrive at a staging of your cancer, then have these done at the soonest possible time.
I understand you’re going through a very hard time, and I can understand your anxiety about the whole thing, but try to stay calm and positive about it. There are a lot more options presently available for the treatment of uterine cancer, and cure can now be achieved even in more advanced stages.
If you feel you have “nobody else to turn to”, maybe now is the time to gather your family around you. I’m sure you can get much needed support from those that are close to you.
