Hi,
This is a good observation. In the case of breast cancer, lumpectomy was tried (and proved by clinical trials to be equivalent in efficacy to mastectomy) because the breast was perceived by most women to be the external and visible symbol of womanhood. The loss of a whole breast may lead to loss of symmetry, impaired self-image, psychological problems and feeling of low self-worth and sexual inadequacy. In case of endometrial cancer, total hysterectomy is performed. The usual age of developing this cancer is the 5th or 6th decade. These women have completed their families and are usually post-menopausal. The loss of the uterus is not of much clinical, physiological, or psychological significance. All the best, and God Bless!
