iGg Kappa protien in my bloodstream

Asked by aspelt9 (Female; 34; I am a registered nurse, and unfortunately know just enough to be damaging to my peace of mind! They detected iGg Kappa protein in my bloodstream. I have a bad family history of myeloma. ) on Thu 10, Jun 2010 12:34pm

No further investigations was done, and I was told to be paranoid. Problem is: we are really trying to have a baby, but I am not sure if this is safe? Please help! Should I seek a second opinion???

Answer by bobby s, md  on Sun 13, Jun 2010 10:13am:

Hello,
Mild bands (kappa, lambda, others) are sometimes noted in normal, healthy individuals. There are no effective screening tests for myeloma, and it is not clear if workup of healthy persons with family history of myeloma is beneficial. However, if your peace of mind is disturbed with the finding of the blood test, do consult a hematologist by all means. If you are trying to have a baby, than you need to be in a happy, unworried, peaceful frame of mind.
All the best, and God Bless! (and Good luck with the planned motherhood!)
