Cancer? - Sever headache, MRI showed nothing: Large lump on quarter of finger

Asked by user (Male ) on Mon 31, Mar 2008 09:55am :

I have had severe headaches for about four months, my doctor said they are not migraines. However I had an MrI and nothing came Up. Fr about 5 months I have been getting very dizzy. SOmetimes I have to sit down, and a couple times I have actually passed out. My doctor ordered a blood test but that was in October and nothing besides low WBC and RBC came up. IN January I started getting very very tired sometimes I would come home from school and go straight to sleep. I also have noticed some weird bruising on my legs, and I got a bloody nose today which is the first I have ever had. Also ( gory details) my periods have lasted for about five days with very very heavy bleeding. Any Ideas as to what it could be ? I also have a large lump the size of a quarter on my finger

Hi. I've reviewed the information from your previous posts (I've also placed a comment on your other post). The increased eosinophils in the blood, as well as the easy fatigue, bloody nose, leg bruises, and heavy menstrual flow seem to point to a hematologic problem. I'm considering a diagnosis of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) in your case. This is a condition where the body develops antibodies to one's own platelets, causing their destruction and depletion. The decrease in platelets then leads to a tendency for bleeding and easy bruising. You may need to have serial blood counts done to document decreasing platelet counts. The one symptom which you have that is inconsistent with ITP is the presence of a "lump". Can you describe it further? Where is it located? What is it's consistency (hard, soft, firm, etc.)? I still hold the opinion that the best thing that you can do is to see an Internist so you can get properly evaluated. There's no substitute for a face to face encounter with the doctor. Since the doctors in this forum can only rely on the descriptions you give us, we can only give a rough guess as to what your condition really is.
