Answer by Dr Fernando, MD (oncologist) on Thu 03, Apr 2008 09:01pm:

Hi, Breast cytosarcomas (also known as phyllodes sarcomas) are rare tumor types. Because of this, systemic chemotherapy regimens used to treat these types of tumors have only been tested on small numbers of patients. Since there is no large scale testing of regimens, we really don't have any hard evidence measuring the efficacy of one regimen against another. So we can't tell if Ifosfamide plus Adriamycin is actually better than Taxol, Ifosfamide and Doxil combination. If your tumor responds to the treatment, then that would be the best option for you. Aside from the chemotherapy, there would also be an added benefit if the metastatic lesion to the lung can be surgically excised (the procedure is called metastasectomy). This can be done either before the chemotherapy or after. If the chemotherapy comes before the excision, the chemo would serve to decrease the size of the lung lesion so that surgery would be less extensive.
