Answer by Dr Heinrik M, MD (oncologist) on Sun 06, Apr 2008 05:45pm:

Hi, For the data you’ve provided, the tumor size may be anywhere between 2 and 5 cm. The risk for relapse would increase, the higher the tumor size becomes. If the tumor size was between 2 and 3 cm: the risk of relapse would be about 43% within 10 years. The chemotherapy could reduce the relapse to about 20%. If the tumor size was between 3 and 5 cm: the risk of relapse would be about 46%. The chemotherapy (depending on what type of chemo you received) could reduce this to about 22-32%. If you know what kind of medications you received, I may be able to provide a narrower estimate. As you may have noticed, the chemotherapy has a larger risk reduction when the baseline risk is higher. The impact of the HER2 negative status is not evaluated here, as the overall experience of women with this feature is still accumulating, so estimates are difficult to provide.

Thank you for your quick response, it was very helpful. My tumor measured 2.6 cm in maximum dimension. The chemo treatment I received was for six sessions, 3 of FEC "5-FU + Epirubicin + Cyclophosphamide" , and 3 of Taxotere. I hope this additional information will help you in providing me with a more accurate risk of re occurrence. Thanks once again for your help.
