Answer by Dr Bobby V, MD (oncologist) on Sat 12, Apr 2008 10:27am:
Hi,
I am sorry to hear of your advanced disease with thalassemia, hepatitis C, cirrhosis, iron overload state, and esophageal varices.
You seem to be a bit harsh on the medical establishment, which, you feel, is not sensitive enough to your needs. You feel that you have been left to your own fate. I do not know your exact circumstanses, but this may just be your perception, and not necessarily a reflection of facts.
Please have a frank and detailed discussion with your treating physician, or seek an appointment with a new internist (or preferrably a gastroenterologist).
There are many medical interventions that can help you substantially even in your current state. You would benefit from peg-interferon and antivirals like ribavarin for Hepatitis C. Iron chealators like desferrioxamine or deferiprone will reduce excess iron that has accumulated in your body perhaps as a result of repeated blood transfusions for thalassemia therapy. Esophageal varices need to be managed with banding, sclerotherapy, or drugs like beta blockers. Your surgeon can consider placing a shunt or perform a liver transplant if feasible.
You have asked me if I can prescribe you marijuana. The answer is no. Please discuss with your treating physician the need for appropriate pain relief measures, counselling, and other treatment and palliative measures.
I wish you all the very best.

FIRST OF ALL ANY INTERFERON AND RIBAVARIN WOULD PUT ME INTO HEMOTOLIC
SCHOCK DUE TO MY PLATELS WHICH ARE LOW NOW.THE DRUGS FOR THE IRON CHEATORS AND THE DESFERRIOXAMINE WILL KILL
ME BECAUSE IT MESSES WITH YOUR LIVER. MY HEMOTOLOGIST TOLD ME THE TRANSFUSIONS WILL MAKE ME SO FATUGED THAT I
WOULD LOWER MY IMMUNE SYSTEM AND DIE. WE TRIED ALL THAT STUFF. MY SISTER DIED AT 53 AND WENT THROUGH HELL
TRYING ALL YOUR AMERICAN HOPEFULS.
I AM TAKING UDCA THROUGH ESSENCE OF CHRYSANTHEMUM. IT HAS 90% OF UDCA THAT IS THE SAME DRUG IN THE BEAR GALL
BLADDER THAT IS KNOWN TO CURE HEP C AND CIIRHOUSIS. THE FDA APPROVED IT IN ACTGIL FOR GALL STONES. I DO A
LIVER SUPPLEMENT FROM CHINA AND DANDLINE, MILKTHISSLE AND ARTICHOKE. JUST STARTED THIS TREATMENT SO I WILL LET
YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. I TOOK THE LIVER SUPPLEMENT AND CHRYSANTHEMUM FOR 2 MONTHS STRAIGHT EVERYDAY AND
DROPPED MY AST- SGOT TO 145 FROM 245 AND MY ALT-SGPT 184 FROM 284. IMANAGE THAT, THAT IS CHINESE HERBAL
MEDICINE. MY ONOCOLOGIST AND HEMOTOGOLIST ME DON'T TAKE AMERICAN MEDICINE, JUST GO HOME AND ENJOY THE
TIME YOU HAVE LEFT.
THANKS FOR THE ADVISE BUT I DON'T THINK I CAN PAY YOU FOR SOMETHING I KNOW ALREADY WOULD NOT WORK. IF I
SOUND HARSH ON AMERICAN MEDICINE IT IS BECAUSE I KNOW SOMEONE HAS THE CURE BUT AMERICA DOESN'T WANT TO
PUT IT OUT THERE BECAUSE THEY MAKE MORE MONEY FROM THERE METHOD WHICH DOESN'T WORK. NOW ALL THE DRUG
COMPANIES WILL HAVE TO DISCLOSE PAYMENT TO DOCTORS, FREE TRIPS, AND USE OF GENERIC DRUGS SINCE MERICK HAS BEEN
BOUGHT OUT BY A MAJOR CORPORATION, AND MAYBE THEY WILL BE HONEST WITH THE ACTIVE INGREDIANT THAT THEY CLAIM
COST SO MUCH AND DISCLOSE THE REAL PRICES. THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES HAVE OVER 100,000 PRETTY YOUNG HOOKERS
WORKING FOR THEM WHO PIMP THE DOCTORS, SO THE NEW DRUG DEALERAS ON THE BLOCK DON'T SELL HERION, COCIANE,
METH, THEY SELL GENERIC DRUGS.
SORRY DUDE BUT I KNOW THE GAME.
I WENT TO RUTGERS, BERKELEY AND PRINCENTON.
Clarification / Comment by Dr Bobby V, MD on Sat 12, Apr 2008 10:41pm:
Hi Alex,
Not having trained in Chinese Medicine or in other Complementary and Alternative (CAM) therapies, I am unable
to comment on their efficacy or the lack thereof. However, I have heard anecdotal reports that a few of these
may be useful in certain situations.
I wish you good luck.
