Hi,
Given your family history, it is understandable that you are anxious to learn about this disease and do all you can to reduces your chances of getting it. One effective way of reducing cancer mortality and morbidity is screening, where healthy people undergo certain tests to check if they have any cancer that has not yet become symptomatic. Screening for cancer of breast, cervix, colon, prostate etc is of proven benefit. There is no good evidence to prove that screening for pancreatic or liver cancer is of benefit. Please have a detailed discussion with your doctor and together chalk out a plan for regular check-ups. Meanwhile, you must adopt a healthy life-style that will reduce chances of cancer - no smoking, minimum red meat, avoid too much alcohol, ensure that a bigger proportion of your diet should be composed of vegetables, fruits, dairy, salads, and nuts, maintain a normal body weight, and exercise regularly.
And most importantly, do not worry too much about cancer - statistically, your chances of getting cancer are similar to that of other people. Enjoy, and be thankful for your good health. all the best, and God Bless!
