My sister in law has Inflammatory Breast Cancer and my mother in law checked my blood sugar with her diabetic sugar checker thing. After she checked my sugar I found out she had previously used the same needle/lancet on my canerous sister in law all in the same day. I have been worried sick. Will I get cancer from this? is there anything I can do or should do as a precaution? Any medicine? any test? how long does cancer cells live outside the body on a needle? if I am at risk, how long can the cancer live in my body before it makes itself known? Is there enough research on this subject to be conclusive? Im sooo scared. Thanks for any advice/help. Kendra

Dear Kendra, Relax, there is no evidence to prove that breast cancer can spread from one person to another through blood products, insect bites, sharing utensils, towels etc. Just to repeat, there is no evidence to sow that cancer can be induced if blood is transferred from one person to another by needles, mosquito bites etc. To give you another example, there are multiple cases where pregnant cancer women give rise to healthy babies. Cancer is a genetic disease, and occurs when mutations occur in a persons DNA. It cannot be spread from one person to another. Risk factors for cancer may be spread from one person to another. For example HPV is a risk factor for cervical cancer, and can be spread from one person to another via sexual route. So even if an infected man spreads the infection to his partner, the absolute chances of her getting cervix cancer are still low, and will depend on many factors other than mere presence of the HPV. In breast cancer, there is no known virus or infectious agent that can transmit cancer from one person to another. Please relax. All the best, and God Bless!

About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer at age 36. Yes, 36. They removed the tumor by surgery through the urethra. The catheters are the worst part after surgery. After having the surgery, the doctor had me go through BCG treatments. (6 in 6 weeks, also done through the urethra). Cancer disappeared for 9 months, then doctor found 3 small tumors. Went in again to remove tumors. Now has me going through another round of BCG using interferon. Oooh, I do not like these. After three out of 6 treatments, doctor stopped as I began to urinate blood. Bladder contracts so much, it is a pain i cannot describe. Pain bad enough to bring you to your knees. Cannot stop urinating, as it feels like my bladder is shrinking. Doctor wants to remove my bladder, but I am refusing. I do not know what other treatments there are or how many times i can go thru treatments. In my opinion, I think I would rather go through treatments rather than to have him tear out my bladder. As long as doc is on top of aggressively watching me (see him 4-6 times a yr) and has cancer confined to bladder, why take it out. It is not spreading anywhere and i can still pee normal and have erections and orgasms. Dont know what to do next but if he mentions removing bladder again, i may seek an alternative doctor.
