Asked by lisam (Female; 60; Obese 5 years ago with no medical signs. Jaundiced and discovered bile duct cancer. Whipple surgery in
2004, multiple chemotherapy, stage IV with metastese in the lungs and lymph nodes, last scan came back clear
after 8 rounds o fchemo infusion and Tarceva oral targeted therapy. 100 lb weight loss in 6 years. Present,
biliary drain and jaundice.; Relevant drugs:Enzymes for pancreas, Ultrase 6 caplets daily. )

Stage 4 metastatic choloangiocarcinoma proceding a 5 year survival after a whipple, chemotherapy oral and infused, mutiple transfusions and now jaundiced with a biliary drain, how long can a patient sustain this disease? Weight loss and anemic over the holiday, now with the drain. Thank you.

Hi, Stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma (recurrence after previous surgery) is difficult to cure. Also, one cannot predict with any accuracy any individual patients longevity. Palliative care can, however, reduce suffering to a large extent. All the best, and God Bless!
