Hi, I noticed two enlarged submandibular lymph nodes 10 days ago on the right side under my chin. They were rock hard, not really moveable, without any pain, maybe a bit sensitive to pressure. I went to the ORL, the doctor asked me about my wisdom teeth, because she told she saw something like pus in my mouth, but couldn't be sure (food, toothpaste, ..?). She gave me some antibiotics and sent me to see my dentist. My dentist made RTG (from the right side) and told me it's my wisdom tooth - there's small space in my jaw and it might be inflamed. So I was sent to see a surgeon. Surgeon made another RTG (from the front) and told me it's not because of my wisdom tooth, but he'd extract all 4 of them anyway (they're not growing perfect, they gave me some pain before, but never for more than 2 days). Now it's been a week and those nodes shrinked a bit, but they're still there and they're not shrinking anymore. They're about 1,5cm each. They're still kind of hard but very freely moveable against other tissue, they seem to be connected to each other (but they've got space between them). I'm a bit worried about lymphoma, am I overreacting? I don't feel any pain at all (teeth, gums, nodes, not even to touch), and I can't tell how long have these nodes been enlarged. 4 days ago I also found slightly enlarged (less than 1,5cm) lymh node on the right side of my neck. I also got very dry lips, yeast infection, uncomfortable feeling in my stomach and sometimes I'm getting back pain - could it be because of the antibiotics - it started about 4th day of using them? And how long can it take before those lymph nodes "disappear" in case it's nothing? No fever (36,2-37,0), non smoker, 23y.o. male, no family lymphoma history as far as I can tell, but I'm not 100% sure. I gained some weight recently, no excessive night sweats. Thank you for your answer

Answer by bobby s, md (oncologist) on Tue 02, Mar 2010 12:57pm:

Hi, It appears very unlikely to me that you have lymphoma. You seem to have oral infection and maybe some dental problems, which are known to give rise to neck nodes. Also these nodes have recently decreased in size. You have no weight loss or night sweats. I suggest that you see an internist and also take a second opinion from another experienced dentist. All the best, and God Bless!
