"Surgical Pathology Report" QUESTION: Does the following surgical pathology report mean that I have "Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia" of either breast? Both breast biopsies were examined in their entirety microscopically and show cystic change with areas of duct epithelial hyperplasia without the architectural and cytologic features that are associated with atypical duct epithelial hyperplasia on histologic examination." "This patient's fine needle aspiration has also been reviewed along with the biopsies. They show areas of duct epithelial hyperplasia with cytologic variability including visible nucleoli and some pleomorphism, i.e. variability in cell size appear to correspond to the areas of duct epithelial hyperplasia on the biopsy material." "Final Diagnosis" (1)Breast Bopsy with areas of cystic change and duct epithelial hyperplasia (R Breast) (2)Breast biopsy with cystic change, apocrina metaplasia, and duct epithelial hyperplasia (L Breast)

Hello,

Based on the FNAC and biopsy reports you mentioned, features of atypical ductal hyperplasia were not seen in either breast. The report implies that that you have fibrocystic disease of the breast.

Despite the fact that you do not have atypical ductal hyperplasia, it is advisable for you to be on regular surveillance by your doctor.
