Hi.
Myxoid liposarcoma comprises about 40% of all liposarcomas. It usually arises in the deep soft tissues of the extremities, but can occur in other sites as well like the retroperitoneum and subcutaneous tissues.
Treatment would depend on several factors: histologic type, grade, size, patient age. The stage of the disease is also considered in the treatment decision. If the sarcoma is high grade and more than 10 cm in size, preoperative chemotherapy can be given to shrink the size of the mass. Complete surgical excision follows with adequate surgical margins (>1 cm margin). After surgery, postoperative radiotherapy can be delivered to the involved area. Radiotherapy or combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy can also be given preoperatively and postoperatively. All of these interventions are done to decrease the risk of local and distant recurrence.
Based on the American Joint Committee on Cancer in 2002, the freedom from local recurrence and overall survival for stage I, II, and III disease are 84% and 88%, 82% and 76%, and 83% and 54%, respectively.
