hi, i have had a small dry waxy red patch of skin beside my noise since november 2008, no matter what i do it wont go away. i have spent over 300 dollars on prescriptions. my doctor finally made me a specialist appointment but its not till january. is it possible that i have skin cancer, i was reading that people with fair skin and blue eyes are at higher risk. i have blue eyes and extremley pale skin that burns and does not tan. i am freaking out paranoid wondering if i should fight my doctor for a faster appointment?

Answer by Dr.Ravindra Rajput  on Sun 08, Aug 2010 11:21am:

Hi, you are having dry waxy patch since 2008 and you would have consulted before this. Actinic keratoses are slightly scaly, reddish patches that form on people with sun-damaged skin. They are precancerous a growth that may eventually turn malignant and become cancerous growth that may changes into a squamous cell carcinoma cancer that occurs in squamous cells, which are specialized cells near the skin surface that produce protective keratin.. Usually recommend removal of actinic keratoses. You should not waist time and consult dermatologist immediately. Hope you will get well soon. Take care and regards.
