Other alternative test that can be done would include plain studies of MRI or CT scan (without the contrast) but this may lessen the accuracy of the scans. Another option is go for laparoscopic staging (where a scope is inserted in the abdominal cavity to accurately assess the surroundings). Laparoscopic staging is less invasive compared to a formal open surgery. This procedure may also be appropriate for the elderly or for people with comorbid conditions.
