Hi Linda.
Just have some clarifications.
How long have you been experiencing this?
Aside from the choking sensation, are there other symptoms?
Do you have lymph nodes in the neck area?
An infection in the head and neck could cause enlargement and swelling of the tonsils. Appropriate antibiotic coverage can relieve the infection and thus would make the swelling subside. If the tonsils are persistently enlarged even with antibiotic intake, that warrants further examination. Aside from infection, other conditions that can cause this would be lymphoma and carcinoma. An ENT evaluation is needed in order to know the cause.
