Hi,
Treatment for hormone refractory disease could consist of a second-line hormonal agent (such as ketoconazole with or without a steroid) or chemotherapy (preferably with docetaxel – as this drug has shown a survival benefit).
A promising drug undergoing trial is satraplatin – you could explore enrollment in studies using this drug.
In terms of trials though, it may be more productive to consult at a nearby cancer center (those that conduct trials are usually connected with schools/universities), in order to explore what options there are. As a rough guide, a phase III trial evaluates drugs in late stages of development (meaning the dose and the toxicity profile is more firmly established) hence, the benefit of participation and the risks would be clearer. Bear in mind though that enrollment only gives you the chance, it does not guarantee the chance that the experimental drug will be given to you. Patients under trial receive: current standard of care, standard of care with experimental drug, or experimental drug alone
